"Smart Goals"- ART I (PLC- #2)

Sept 21, 2009

Sean and I reflected on our figure drawing assessment for last week. Discussed the pro's and con's.
We discussed Art I smart goals.
After viewing the data from our smart goal ( last year), we decided that we needed to continue pursue same smart goal due to the fact we did not reach our goal... "to have 80% of our students to completely render the Self Portrait drawings by the last day of classes before final exams".

We plan to tweak the curriculum a little further to achieve this goal. Our first strategy is to rewrite a common assessment for the project (together). Our focus will be to include expectations concerning the "finished" attributes of the drawing.

Hi Brian & Sean-- I like that you are continuing posting your SMART goals and curriculum thoughts in the art dept. blog. Other than our district art show and gifted assessments, do you have additional SMART goals for our whole dept? and, just wondering, why did some students not finish their self-portraits?

Yes, we each have smart goals created for our other class. We will post them up soon.

Concerning the self portraits.... there were many reasons why the 80% of the students did not reach a finished state. One big reason is the fact that we did this in the spring semester. Some of our seniors left on internship. Another reason is summer was approaching, and many students naturally shut down by May. Still another reason could of been that we simply need more time for the project. All three reasons will be addressed this semester.

Understood...look forward to how your adjustments improve the completion rate.
