High School PLC #5 and 6- Nov. 10 & 17

Both meetings have been discussing current projects (value scales and still life drawings... which we decided to do) and the progress between our two classes... comparing results, discussing how to improve success, etc. We also discussed the logistics to have students begin their self portrait projects this week. Because this is a new project for Art I (at least the way the students will be doing it), we needed to brainstormed the steps to create it and the concerns associated with the project.

Yesterday's (Nov 17) meeting primarily focused on space issues in Sean's room. Basically, he has no room and he is now about to start painting with one of his classes (20-something students). So we discussed easels (building them), storage space, and other issues surrounding up and coming classes.
One conclusion that we have settled on is that we can not have a sculpture class in Sean's room... there is no space for it. So this will be a big issue in the next few weeks of how we are going to approach this concern. In the end, we believe that the sculpture class will be in the other art room which has it's obvious problems (i.e.- computers, no kiln).

more to come next week....

High School PLC #4- Oct 20

Brian/Sean: Art I- Oct 20

Today, Mr Roberto sat in on our PLC meeting.

We began with a discussion about Mr. Caponi's Art I classes- abstract paintings. We discussed the success and direction of the work as well as the rubric that will be used by both of us.... and explored different methods (electronic vs hand written approaches ) to score the project for this 9 weeks grade.

We next discussed a change in the Art I curriculum concerning still life drawings. Should we, or should we not, do this assignment. After a lengthy discussion, we both felt that more discussion is still needed before making this decision. More to come next week.

-Brian and Sean reviewed Brian's ART I students' abstract paintings (their progress).
-Other discussions: Brian demonstrated to Sean how he presents three-point to art one students.

High School PLC- Sept 22

Sean and I met from 2:35-3:25

We reviewed Brian's art one students contour line drawings. Our discussion revolved around common assessment of traits within the drawing. We then discussed what will be the line (attribute)s that the students must achieve (to demonstrate success of the concept) for us to go on to the main project.

1) THURSDAY May 14, 2009 gifted portfolio day
2) District art show (tentative, waiting for HS musical date confirmation from Rob A.)= April24-26, 2009
3) next meeting Mon. Dec. 1 at 3:15, Teri's room (Craddock)
4) Brian will set up the art. dept. blogsite for meeting notes, items of interest, etc.---send link to all when done
5) Lois will follow-up on possible 1/2 day release to set-up a SMART goal for dept.; a singular direction we want all students to go in---vertical implementation/collaboration.

Well... summing up. ...
The blog is obviously done... kindoff.
Rob A. did verify the dates of his HS musical.... kindof. He thinks it is the last weekend of April. (I'll get back to you when I get a firm answer on that).
